The webinar on “Advancing the Energy Transition in Africa through Nationally Determined Contributions” organised by IRENA, the Africa Union Commission and the UK COP26 Presidency with the participation of representatives from government institutions, financial institutions, development partners, and non-governmental organizations.
This virtual event will have a regional focus on Africa, will aim at:
- encouraging more ambitious climate action by all governments in Africa, including the submission of updated NDCs and long-term climate/energy strategies in support of the goals set out in the Paris Agreement;
- sharing regional experience on the domestic energy systems transformation required to achieve the GHG reduction targets set by NDCs of African countries;
- deepening the understanding on the opportunities offered by the energy sector in the decarbonization efforts; and
- broadening the knowledge and understanding of the role of NDCs in achieving the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement, including, the opportunities to maximize the socioeconomic benefits of the energy transition.
